How We Work

Having a garden designed for the first time can be daunting. To set your mind at ease and make the experience more enjoyable we have provided some information on the landscape design process.

Getting Started: Landscaper or Landscape Designer?

Your first port of call is always a LANDSCAPE DESIGNER. A landscape designer is equivalent to the architect/building designer of your home. If you are building or renovating, consider your garden as an integral part of your overall house design, in terms of budget and planning. A lovely garden adds between 10% and 15% to the overall value of your home so it is wise to have a realistic budget for the installation of your landscape.

Stage 1: Initial Consultation

This is when we look at the site and discuss ideas, yours and mine. We will look at the architecture of your house, talk about your lifestyle, ages of children and anything else that may influence the creation of a garden uniquely suited to you and your family. At this meeting I will give you a written estimate of the cost of a garden design.

Fee: $250 plus GST (In the metro area)
Payment: On completion of consultation - cheque or cash.

Stage 2: Preliminary Design Concept

A site evaluation will be carried out and any features or levels not indicated on your own plans will be added. A concept plan at a scale of 1:100 will be prepared in colour based on your design brief. This will be the floor plan of your new garden and it will show all the hard landscaping such as water features, pergolas, pavilions, retaining walls etc. This is collected from my office.

Fee: $150/hour (plus GST)
Payment: On collection of concept - cheque or cash

Stage 3: Final Landscape Design

Another meeting is arranged in my office to discuss any changes you would like to make to the concept. I then select the plants (according to any personal preferences you may have) A planting schedule is prepared showing quantities, pot sizes and soil and cultural notes. The plan is finalised and ready to be collected and quoted by the installing landscaper.

Fee: $150/hour (plus GST)
Payment: On collection of final drawing - cheque or cash

All prices quoted effective from December 2006. The cost of a landscape design is dependent on the size and complexity of the design.
